“Alias” Alumni Watch

September 3, 2009

One of my all-time favorite TV shows is “Alias”.  “Alias” was created by J.J. Abrams and it began in 2001 and ran for 5 seasons.  If you like “Lost” and “Fringe”, I think you would appreciate Abrams creative vision in this series.  All five season of “Alias” are on DVD, so if you haven’t watched the show before…definitely check it out.  You’ll totally be hooked! :)

Even though the show is over, the former cast of “Alias” have certainly flourished in their careers.  Jennifer Garner has a growing film career and she has her own production company.  Michael Vartan is on the TNT show “Hawthorne”.  Greg Grunberg is on NBC’s “Heroes”, and Bradley Cooper is having a breakout year with his recent summer hit “The Hangover” and many upcoming movies on the way.

Thus I created a new category on my blog called the “Alias Alumni Watch” so whenever a former cast member has something  new or noteworthy – you will be able to view all posts with “Alias” references in this new blog category.  Keep and eye out for updates made in the “Alias Alumni Watch” category in order to stay up-to-date with your former “Alias” cast members’ careers!

more about "The Invention of Lying", posted with vodpod

“The Invention of Lying” stars Jennifer Garner and Ricky Gervais in a comedy where no one has ever lied, until a writer (Gervais) seizes the opportunity for personal gain. Gervais co-wrote and directed the film. For more information on the movie, visit the official website. “The Invention of Lying” hits theaters on October 2, 2009. Full cast list can be found on IMDB.com. Garner and Gervais have worked together before. Gervais guest starred on an episode of “Alias” back in 2004 where he played a very convincing villain. Great episode!

Access Hollywood caught up with Garner and Gervais on the set of the movie and asked the stars “What’s The Worst Lie You Ever Told”? Click on the link below to watch the interview.

Fall Movie Season: September 2009

August 31, 2009

filmreel

The summer is almost over and with that comes the Fall. Leaves changing and cool breezes, but hopefully the Fall will bring on the heat in the box office. The month of September is a mix of genres. Early in the month we have Sandra Bullock’s latest rom-com “All about Steve” with “Hangover” star Bradley Cooper. Bullock is a stalker who is obsessed with Steve played by Cooper. Just based on the trailer, I have a feeling it is either going to be a hit or a miss. Gerard Butler switches back to the action genre and stars in the “Gamer” where it isn’t just a game, but the players fight to survive. The animated Sci-Fi thriller “9″ comes out this month as well. The film was produced by Tim Burton (“Sweeny Todd”) and “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov. Toward the middle of the month we have a few horror films with “Jennifer’s Body” written by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody (“Juno”) starring “Transformers” star Megan Fox and Amanda Segfried (“Mamma Mia”). Also “Sorority Row” promises to scare audiences but it kind of looks like “I Know What You Did Last Summer” but with sorority girls. The family pick of the month would be “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” which is going to be in 3D. Hmm…3D meatballs falling from the sky, I don’t know if that it is scary or just plain funny. At the end of the month the remake of “Fame” hits theaters which could be a hit with the growing popularity of dance shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing with the Stars”. Then there’s Bruce Willis’ latest film “Surrogates”, which is a Sci-Fi film where people don’t live their lives, machines surrogates live life for them.

My spotlight picks of the month go to “The Informant!” starring a big-boned Matt Damon and “Extract”. Damon gained thirty pounds for the role and it looks like it is going to be funny. The film is directed by Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh (“Traffic”) who also directed “Ocean’s Trilogy”. “Extract” was written and directed by”Office Space” creator Mike Judge. Could “Extract” be the Fall’s “Hangover”?

So that’s my recap of the September movie releases. Keep reading in order to see the complete list of movies coming out this month.

G.I. Joe: The Good and the Bad

August 17, 2009

G.I. Joe had all the elements of what a summer action movie should have, but sadly it did not quite deliver.  You can’t deny that movies based on toys have been a hot commodity this summer and that trend in my opinion will not change any time soon.  Hasbro and Paramount Pictures teamed up to bring G.I. Joe to life. It had action, special effects, and romance but to sum it all up – it was predictable and the ending had me thinking “what was the point of making this film if it was going to end like that?”  It is sad because G.I. Joe could’ve been so much better.

Here is a synopsis of the film from the G.I. Joe official website:

“From the Egyptian Desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the Elite G.I. Joe team uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment to fight the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos.”

Jennifer Garner and ABC team up again!

July 18, 2009

Source: EW.com

Jennifer Garner and ABC will be teaming up again but not in the way “Alias” fans would hope, but still good news nonetheless! Former “Alias” star Jennifer Garner has signed a deal with ABC to develop shows for the network under her production company Vandalia Films.

Very exciting news! I’m interested in what sort of shows Garner’s production company will develop for ABC. Perhaps an Alias-esque show or a possible reunion of the Alias cast? One can only hope!
