In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams is a documentary chronicling the journey of turning a vision into a Tony Award winning musical. The documentary contains behind-the-scenes footage and cast interviews, including Tony award winner Lin Manuel Miranda. The documentary will premiere on May 27, 2009 on PBS. I think this documentary could be quite interesting and the story of the show’s humble beginnings turned into award-winning success is an amazing “Cinderella” story in itself. “In the Heights” is a story about hope, love, family, and community set in the backdrop of Washington Heights in New York City. The music is fun and vibrant and the show is definitely energetic and an instant crowd pleaser. For more information about the show or the documentary, visit the In the Heights website.

According to a New York Times article, Universal Pictures has already purchased the rights to the show, so an “In the Heights” movie adaptation is not that far behind. Personally, I think this is great news as motion pictures allow for a bigger audience at an affordable price especially if you cannot see the show live on Broadway or on tour.
