In the season finale of “Shaq vs.”, they’ve certainly saved the best for last as Shaq takes on Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Some may remember that Shaquille O’Neal has a Olympic Gold Medal himself as he was part of the 1996 Basketball Dream Team. On the other hand, Michael Phelps has 14 Gold Medals. Who will win the battle of the Olympians?

It’s the mis-match worth watching! Shaq challenges 10-Time World Boxing Champion Oscar De La Hoya to a 5-round exhibition boxing match. De La Hoya came out of retirement in order to accept Shaq’s challenge. De La Hoya stands at 5’10 while Shaq towers over De La Hoya at 7’1″. Also De La Hoya is out of his weight class as Shaq is more than 300 lbs. Who will win this “David and Goliath” match?
In the third episode of “Shaq vs.”, Shaq challenges 2-Time National MVP Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals in a home-run derby. Who will win the battle of the MVP’s?
When this episode was filmed it was stated that Albert Pujols has had 350 career home runs. “Pujols is at the top of his game.” This is why Shaq wanted to challenge Pujols. Shaq was a little nervous for this episode and it begins with Shaq talking to his trainer Mike on a jet about this latest match. When the jet approaches St. Louis, Shaq looks out the window and sees the St. Louis Arch and says “that’s the biggest golden arches I’ve ever seen”. I really hope that was a joke because that’s just sad if Shaq thought the St. Louis Arch was a McDonald’s.

It’s on! In Episode 2 of “Shaq vs.”, Shaquille O’Neal takes on 2-Time Olympic Gold Medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in a game of Beach Volleyball. The rules were 3 games to 11 points with rally scoring using a Women’s regulation Volleyball net. The height of the net in a women’s regulation game is 7’3″. Shaq is 7’1″ so when he challenged Misty and Kerri, he said that he didn’t need any handicaps (seeing as that he had the height advantage) unlike the premiere episode with Ben Roethlisberger where Shaq asked for a distance handicap. The stakes are if Shaq loses, he has to wear a pink speedo that says “Shaq” on the rear and parade them around so to speak (basically he has to take a walk on the beach with them on). Before this match, it was mentioned that Kerri & Misty had won 108 consecutive matches. So who will win this “battle of the sexes” match?

Last night, August 18, 2009, was the premiere of “Shaq vs.” on ABC. This show is exactly like that Gatorade commercial with Michael Jordan and Mia Hamm. In a game of “anything you can do, I can do better”, NBA player Shaquille O’Neal challenges other professional athletes at their own sport. The series premiere pitted Shaq against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in order to determine the better quarterback. The series premiere of “Shaq vs.” was quite hilarious! There is no question that Shaq is a big guy standing at 7’1″ so I think this will be quite an interesting show to watch. With egos and reputations on the line, it is amazing how the competitive nature of these athletes are unleashed.
