**UPDATE 4/13/10: This week’s theme is Elvis Presley songs.**
Season 9 of “American Idol” has certainly been interesting. Unfortunately it isn’t for the contestants. Aside for a few stand out performers, this season has kind of been a bit dull. The product placements and show promotions have certainly out shined the contestants’ lime light which sadly strays away from the objective of the competition. Guest mentors were first introduced during Season 2 of American Idol, but as for this season – the mentors have been questionable. First it was Miley Cyrus but now Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert? Adam Lambert will be featured as the guest mentor on April 13, 2010, and he is scheduled to perform on the results show on April 14, 2010.
Here is the official video for “Time For Miracles” performed by Adam Lambert from the film “2012”, which will open in theaters on November, 13, 2009. Adam Lambert was runner-up to Kris Allen in cycle 8 of “American Idol”. The video first premiered on MySpace on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at midnight. For more information on the movie visit the 2012 official website. For more news and updates on Adam Lambert and/or his upcoming new album, “For Your Entertainment” (available on 11/23/09), visit Adam Lambert’s official website.
What a huge step in Adam Lambert’s career landing the title music track for a major motion picture!
Former American Idol alum Allison Iraheta recently finished the American Idol Tour and sat down with Pop Eater to talk about her debut single and life after Idol. Iraheta placed 4th last season [on Idol] but during the summer it was announced that she signed with 19/Jive Records. Her debut single is called “Friday I’ll Be Over U” which is currently streaming on Pop Eater or can be heard via the YouTube video below. Her debut single is catchy and has a rock vibe and it sort of reminds me of Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” in the sense that it is upbeat and fun. According to Entertainment Weekly, Iraheta’s debut album is slated to be released on Dec. 1st.; I am intrigued to hear what the rest of the album sounds like.
During yesterday’s broadcast (June 25, 2009) of Fox’s reality show “So You Think You Can Dance”, host Cat Deeley announced that Fox will re-air the performance show of the Top 13 American Idol Season 8 contestants performing Michael Jackson songs as a tribute to the “King of Pop”. The American Idol: Michael Jackson special will air on Monday, June 29, 2009.
It’s official! Allison Iraheta has been signed by 19/Jive, just like this year’s American Idol Winner: Kris Allen. Allison finished in 4th place just like past Idol alum, Chris Daughtry. Needless to say, Chris Daughtry and his band “Daughtry” has had phenomenal success with their self-titled debut album which has already sold over 5 million copies worldwide and their much anticipated second album, “Leave This Town”, hits stores on July 14, 2009. This season’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, has also been signed by 19/RCA. All three albums are expected to be released this Fall. Very exciting news for all three of them! I’m curious to hear how their albums will turn out.
Currently Kris, Adam, and Allison are on the American Idol Tour with the rest of the Top 13 contestants. Tour dates can be found here.
The next American Idol is…Kris Allen! The Dark Horse wins American Idol Season 8! The finale was full of performances and Golden Idol segments and after 2 hours of endorsements, the 10 seconds reserved for the results were finally revealed. Congratulations to Kris Allen!
As far as the rest of the night, there were some great duets that I enjoyed. Allison and Cyndi Lauper’s duet of “Time After Time”, Kris and Keith Urban performing “Kiss a the Girl”, and Adam and the band Kiss performed song medleys which were the highlight performances of the evening. The Top 13 contestants returned to the stage and had a couple of group performances, including a performance of “I’m Yours” with Jason Mraz himself.
Kris closes the show with “No Boundaries” and performs it 1o times better than the night before. I admit it…I have watched every season of “American Idol” and this is my observation when it comes to the coronation song. I feel like when someone wins “American Idol”, no matter how cheesy the lyrics are for the coronation song…the winner really seems to “believe” in what they are singing and it propels them to sing better. It is those moments that make TV magic!
And so the confetti falls…

It’s finally here! It has been a long journey and last night the final two gave it their all in night one of the two-night season finale of American Idol. This season has had its shocking moments (i.e. the early departure of Alexis Grace) but all of that has been said and done and the battle for the title of the next “American Idol” is down to the Frontrunner (Adam Lambert) vs. The Dark Horse (Kris Allen).
From the beginning Adam Lambert has been the considered the front runner of Season 8 and all of the judges slated Adam to have a one way ticket to the finals. Kris Allen on the other hand has slowly emerged as one to watch as his “artistic” performances from week to week has shown great progression during the course of this competition.
Last week, Kris Allen won the coin toss and chose to sing second. Each contestant performed 3 songs. Their favorite song of the season, a song chosen by Simon Fuller (Creator of American Idol), and an original song: “No Boundaries” co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.
So the Top 3 performed two songs on American Idol last night, one of which was Judge’s choice, and the other was contestant’s choice. In my opinion, the highlight performances were Adam Lambert’s take on “One” by U2, and Kris Allen performing “Heartless” by Kanye West.
