‘Glee’ takes on Coldplay

The Band 'Coldplay' -- Image via Billboard.com

Are you ready to hear some Coldplay on Fox’s hit show “Glee”? Ready or not the band Coldplay has opened their song library to the show. Initially the band said ‘no’ when asked, but it appears they have changed their mind. Considering the popularity of the show, I think it would be quite ludicrous to not have your music showcased on the hit series not just for the exposure factor which is a plus, but in my opinion it is flattering just to be asked.

64th Annual Tony Award Winners

Source: Tony Awards – Official Website

The 64th annual Tony Awards were held on June 13, 2010. Sean Hayes hosted the venue and was quite a performer opening the show with a piano medley and accompanied some of the nominated show’s cast while they performed a song from their respective shows. A lot of first time nominees won their respective categories and the Hollywood stars swept most of the Tony Awards. Scarlett Johannson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Denzel Washington won their categories but the top honors went to “Memphis” for winning Best Musical and “Red” for winning Best Play.

One of the highlights of the awards ceremony were performances by Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison from “Glee”. Matthew Morrison performed All I Need Is The Girl from “Gypsy”. Lea Michele performed Don’t Rain On My Parade from “Funny Girl”. Morrison and Michele are no strangers to the stage as both were nominated for Tony’s before. Lea Michele for “Spring Awakening” and Matthew Morrison for a fantastic performance in “The Light in the Piazza”. If you missed their performance or want to watch it again, click on the link below to see the video from the 2010 Tony Awards as well as some of the winners of the night.

More Madonna and possibly Britney Spears on “Glee”

Source: Entertainment Weekly

Are you ready for “The Power of Madonna” part 2? According to Entertainment Weekly, Glee’s series creator Ryan Murphy is already in talks with Madonna’s people for another Madonna centric episode which would air early next season. Read more on the Ausiello Files.

Also another idea floating around is a possibility of a Britney Spears episode. Murphy is also entertaining this idea, which started to get buzz after Spears’s manager suggested it on Twitter. Murphy also says that he would want more artist tribute episodes. Some of the artists mentioned were Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, and possibly Courtney Love. Read more on Entertainment Weekly.

I think Britney Spears’s music would fit well into Glee world. Just the right amount of corniness would make it a great episode. Here are some of my song suggestions if such an episode were to air:

“…Baby One More Time”
“(You Drive Me) Crazy”
“Womanizer”
“Oops!…I Did it Again”
“I’m a Slave 4 U”
“Toxic”

Thoughts?

67th Golden Globe Nominations

Source: Hollywood Foreign Press Association

The 2009 Golden Globe Nominations were revealed today, December 15, 2009, and the awards ceremony will air on January 17, 2010 and will be hosted by Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais. There are a few freshman nominees which is very exciting and familiar nominees. Starting off with the Movie nominations. Avatar will be released in theaters on December 18, 2009, and if it didn’t look amazing enough – I’m sure a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama would not hurt to boost some box office numbers. Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Invictus. They were truly the shining stars in that film, so the nominations are much deserved. Matt Damon is also nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy for The Informant!. Between Invictus and The Informant!, I think I enjoyed Damon’s performance in The Informant! more. A huge thumbs up from me for Sandra Bullock for being a dual nominee for Best Actress in a Drama for The Blind Side and Best Actress in a Comedy for The Proposal. Also special kudos to (500) Days of Summer for getting a Best Picture – Comedy nomination.

On to the Television nominations. Fox’s freshman hit Glee has four nominations including Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy). Not too shabby for its first year out of the gates. ABC’s freshman comedy Modern Family was also nominated for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy). The question is, can a freshman comedy beat 30 Rock which won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) last year? In terms of Television Nomination snubs, I am surprised that there wasn’t any Grey’s Anatomy love. I would’ve thought that Chandra Wilson and/or Sandra Oh would’ve received an acting nomination.

Click on the link below to see the full list of nominees. What do you think about this year’s nominees?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Tony Award winner Idina Menzel (“Wicked”) may be joining the cast of Fox’s “Glee” for a recurring role! Earlier this season Menzel’s “Wicked” co-star, Kristin Chenoweth, guest starred on the show so it would be great to see more Broadway alums make their way to “Glee”.

Idina Menzel + Glee = “Wicked” cool. 🙂
