**UPDATE 3/5/11: Alec Baldwin will be joining the cast of “Rock of Ages”. He will be playing Dennis, who is the narrator in the stage musical. Adam Shankman posted a tweet on Twitter confirming Baldwin’s role in the film.**

Julianne Hough from “Dancing with the Stars” will be playing Sherrie Christian in the film adaptation of the stage musical “Rock of Ages”. Adam Shankman, who will be directing and choreographing the upcoming film, posted a tweet on Twitter confirming Hough as snagging the female lead. Hough can next be seen in the remake of “Footloose” which is due out in theaters in October (2011).

Other Rock of Ages’ cast members include Tom Cruise, who will be playing Stacee Jaxx (a self absorbed rocker), and Mary J. Blige who will play Justice (a gentleman’s club owner).

I must admit, I do have high hopes for this film. I really enjoyed the musical and with Adam Shankman assuming double duty (director and choreographer) as he did for the film adaptation of the stage musical “Hairspray”, it looks to be a great time at the movies.

As part of a clever marketing strategy, “Glee” premiered after the season finale of “American Idol”. “Glee” is part of the Fox Fall line-up and with American Idol as its lead in, “Glee” brought in approximately 15 million viewers according to Zap2it.com.

Matthew Morrison stars as Will Schuester, an optimistic teacher who volunteers to take over the Glee club in the hope of reliving his glory days with the help of another supportive teacher, Emma Pillsbury, played by Jayma Mays (“Heroes”, “Ugly Betty”) in the effort of trying to make the school’s Glee club great again. Matthew Morrison has starred in the Broadway productions of “Hairspray” (as Link Larkin) and was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in “The Light in the Piazza” (as Fabrizio Naccarelli). The stars of the Glee club include Rachel Berry (Lea Michele, “Spring Awakening”) and the school’s star quarterback Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith, “Kyle XY”). Together they hope to transform the Glee club into a winning team in order to win Nationals.
