Summer Movie Season: June 2010

filmreel

The upcoming movie releases for the month of June can be summarized into comedies, remakes, and sequels. Opening weekend of June we have “Get Him to the Greek” directed by Nicholas Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”). Russell Brand reprises his role as Aldous Snow and Jonah Hill (“Knocked Up”) has the job of trying to get Aldous Snow to a performance at the Greek Theater. Also opening this weekend is “Killers” starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, “Splice” starring Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”), and family film “Marmaduke”.

The “A-Team” hits the big screen this month as well as the remake for “The Karate Kid” starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. DC Comics’s next adaptation, “Jonah Hex”, starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox (“Transformers”) looks to be a potential box office hit but I think the big box office hit of the month will be “Toy Story 3” in 3D.

Toward the end of the month Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz team up for “Knight & Day” which is an action comedy. Funny men Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider are in the comedy “Grown Ups”. Lastly the latest installment of the “Twilight” series “Eclipse” will be theaters on June 30, 2010, which is sure to be a big box office hit.

My spotlight pick of the month is “Ondine” starring Colin Farrell. It seems like a more contemporary rendition of “Splash” with more emotion.

Winter Movie Season: January 2010

filmreel

As we ring in the New Year, we enter a new decade! So what movies can we expect in the first month of the New Year? Vampires, Romance, and the Supernatural…oh my! If those movie themes do not appeal to you, there are plenty of other films being released this month. Daybreakers, The Book of Eli, and Legion have been promoted the most in my opinion. All three take place in the future and humanity has to be saved in some way.

Family films of the month include Jackie Chan’s The Spy Next Door, Extraordinary Measures, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the Tooth Fairy. The rom com movies of the month are Leap Year starring Academy Award nominee Amy Adams and When in Rome starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel.

My spotlight pick of the month is Creation, which is based on the biography,“Annie’s Box”, written by Charles Darwin’s great great-grandson.. The film stars Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”). Well that’s my January overview, click on the link below to check out the rest of the movies coming out in the next month.

more about "The ‘New’ Karate Kid Trailer", posted with vodpod

Here is the trailer for the “Karate Kid” remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Back in July 2009, news broke that the classic 80’s was going to be remade.

If you ask me, paraphrasing “Wax on. Wax off.” to “Take off your jacket, put your jacket on” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

The Karate Kid is getting remade

Source: The Associated Press

The Associated Press has announced that Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith will star in the remake of the 80’s film “The Karate Kid”. Filming has already started in Beijing, China.

I don’t know how I feel about this. “The Karate Kid” is such a classic 80’s film. Who can forget this line?

“Wax on. Wax off.” – Mr. Miyagi (played by Pat Morita).
