It’s almost Spring! In the spirit of Spring and taking a cue from Disney, looking at the upcoming film releases for the month one word comes to my mind – twitterpated. Of course not all of the films have a romantic theme to it. There’s a mix of drama, action, and fantasy thrown into the month as well. Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” kicks off the month in 3D style.
Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremecy”) team up again for “Green Zone”. “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson takes a dramatic role in “Remember Me” also co-starring Lost’s Emilie de Ravin.
Gerard Butler and America Ferrera both star in their own feature films this month as well as co-star in the animated feature “How to Train Your Dragon”. Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston take on the screen in “The Bounty Hunter” and America Ferrera gets married in “Our Family Wedding”.
Toward the end of the month, John Cusack goes back in time in the comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine”. Rounding out the month is the screen adaptation of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks starring Miley Cyrus.
My spotlight pick of the month is “Waking Sleeping Beauty” which is a documentary that shows the creative period around the mid-1980’s as Disney developed and produced some of the most successful animated films in history. At a glance, the month of November has a potential box office hit coming out every weekend. I think it is safe to predict that “New Moon”, the anticipated sequel to “Twilight” is going to be a big hit. For those who are not “Twi-hards” there are plenty of other movies coming out this month that may interest you. Kicking off the first weekend of November is Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” in 3D which I think is going to look amazing in 3D. For those who are still in the Halloween mood there is “The Fourth Kind” which is based on actual events.
Sticking with the animation theme, the “Fanastic Mr. Fox”, “Planet 51”, and “The Princess and the Frog” will premiere this month as well. From the writer and the director of “The Day After Tomorrow” is Roland Emmerich’s latest work “2012”. I actually liked “The Day After Tomorrow” more than I thought I would, so perhaps “2012” would be worth checking out. Want more action than a disaster film? You may want to check out “Ninja Assassin” which is coming out the day before Thanksgiving.
Dialing it back a couple of notches from blood and disaster to feel-good film is “The Blind Side” starring Sandra Bullock which is based on the true story of professional football player Michael Oher. Looking for a family comedy that is non-animated? Perhaps check out “Old Dogs” starring Robin Williams and John Travolta.
My spotlight pick of the month is “Precious” which is based upon the novel “Push” by Sapphire. This movie has been getting some Oscar buzz and with Executive Producers Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry behind the film; this film must be something special. The trailer and some of the scenes for “Precious” had me tearing up already. Mariah Carey also stars in the film as well. Check out the video below to hear Oprah talk about the film a little bit more.
