In the fourth film of the Mission: Impossible franchise, J.J. Abrams switches sides and produces while Brad Bird makes his live-action directorial debut. Bird is probably best known for directing animated films such as “The Incredibles”, and “Ratatouille”. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt with some new cast members including Lost’s Josh Holloway, Simon Pegg (“Star Trek”), and Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”). Full cast list can be found here.
“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” is due out in theaters on December 16, 2011. Even though the film has some “Alias” alumni behind it, was this film rushed out of the gate? Post your thoughts in the Comments section below.
“Mission Impossible: IV” already has its producers set with J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise, now the writers have been chosen as well. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec will be writing the script for “M:I 4”. Both Applebaum and Nemec have worked with Abrams before as co-executive producers on the ABC show “Alias”. J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise are teaming up again for Mission: Impossible 4. J.J. Abrams co-wrote and directed Mission: Impossible 3 and in my opinion it definitely reignited the franchise. Tom has asked J.J. to produce the next installment so J.J. certainly has a full plate on his hands. With the success of “Star Trek”, a sequel is already underway. Also, this year will be the final season of “Lost”. J.J. has many projects queued up as well. Read about J.J.’s latest projects here.
