This November is packed with big action, big laughs, and big sequels. Kicking off the month is “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas”. The cast is back kicking it to another dimension…and that’s 3D. Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead the comedic cast of “Tower Heist”, which opens the same weekend.
Following week from the producers of 300, the “Immortals” hits theaters starring Henry Cavill (“The Tudors”) and Mickey Rourke. A film that can very well be a big hit. Adam Sandler performs double duty playing both the male and female lead in “Jack and Jill”. This film could be really funny or a flop.
Mid month is the weekend of sequels. The sequel to the Academy Award winning film Happy Feet dances its way to theaters again with “Happy Feet Two”. Part 1 of the final installment of the Twilight series, “Breaking Dawn” hits theaters too.
What’s November without Thanksgiving Day movie releases? This Thanksgiving Academy Award winning director, Martin Scorcese, directs a star filled cast in “Hugo”. The animated film “Arthur Christmas” answers the question: “So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?” Voiced by talents including James McAvoy (“Atonement”), Jim Broadbent (“Bridget Jones’s Diary”), Hugh Laurie (“House”), and Bill Nighy.
My spotlight pick of the month is “The Muppets”. Jason Segel (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) co-wrote and stars in the new Muppet film as well as Academy Award nominee Amy Adams. Who doesn’t love the Muppets?

Check out this clip from “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” which premiered during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is the third installment of the “Twilight” series and the movie stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Bryce Dallas Howard.
“Twilight Saga: Eclipse” will be released in theaters on June 30, 2010.
It’s almost Spring! In the spirit of Spring and taking a cue from Disney, looking at the upcoming film releases for the month one word comes to my mind – twitterpated. Of course not all of the films have a romantic theme to it. There’s a mix of drama, action, and fantasy thrown into the month as well. Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” kicks off the month in 3D style.
Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremecy”) team up again for “Green Zone”. “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson takes a dramatic role in “Remember Me” also co-starring Lost’s Emilie de Ravin.
Gerard Butler and America Ferrera both star in their own feature films this month as well as co-star in the animated feature “How to Train Your Dragon”. Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston take on the screen in “The Bounty Hunter” and America Ferrera gets married in “Our Family Wedding”.
Toward the end of the month, John Cusack goes back in time in the comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine”. Rounding out the month is the screen adaptation of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks starring Miley Cyrus.
My spotlight pick of the month is “Waking Sleeping Beauty” which is a documentary that shows the creative period around the mid-1980’s as Disney developed and produced some of the most successful animated films in history. Well that’s my March overview, click on the link below to check out the rest of the movies coming out this month.
Check out this new behind the scenes featurette for Twilight Saga: New Moon featuring the Volturi. Twilight series author, Stephenie Meyer, makes an appearance in this new featurette as well as Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The Volturi cast includes Michael Sheen as Aro; Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius; Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus; Dakota Fanning as Jane; Cameron Bright as Alec; Charlie Bewley as Demetri; Daniel Cudmore as Felix; and Noot Seear as Heidi.
Also check out the behind the scenes featurette on “the wolf pack” members including Taylor Lautner here.
At a glance, the month of November has a potential box office hit coming out every weekend. I think it is safe to predict that “New Moon”, the anticipated sequel to “Twilight” is going to be a big hit. For those who are not “Twi-hards” there are plenty of other movies coming out this month that may interest you. Kicking off the first weekend of November is Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” in 3D which I think is going to look amazing in 3D. For those who are still in the Halloween mood there is “The Fourth Kind” which is based on actual events.
Sticking with the animation theme, the “Fanastic Mr. Fox”, “Planet 51”, and “The Princess and the Frog” will premiere this month as well. From the writer and the director of “The Day After Tomorrow” is Roland Emmerich’s latest work “2012”. I actually liked “The Day After Tomorrow” more than I thought I would, so perhaps “2012” would be worth checking out. Want more action than a disaster film? You may want to check out “Ninja Assassin” which is coming out the day before Thanksgiving.
Dialing it back a couple of notches from blood and disaster to feel-good film is “The Blind Side” starring Sandra Bullock which is based on the true story of professional football player Michael Oher. Looking for a family comedy that is non-animated? Perhaps check out “Old Dogs” starring Robin Williams and John Travolta.
My spotlight pick of the month is “Precious” which is based upon the novel “Push” by Sapphire. This movie has been getting some Oscar buzz and with Executive Producers Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry behind the film; this film must be something special. The trailer and some of the scenes for “Precious” had me tearing up already. Mariah Carey also stars in the film as well. Check out the video below to hear Oprah talk about the film a little bit more. Well that’s my November overview, click on the link below to check out the rest of the movies coming out in the next month.

According to Comingsoon.net via Access Hollywood, Rachelle Lefevre was “stunned” to hear that she was being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the role of Victoria for the third installment in the “Twilight” series, “Eclipse”. The announcement of Howard taking over the role came yesterday (July 28, 2009) after Summit Entertainment stated that Lefevre had scheduling conflicts that prevented her from filming the third movie.
Interesting choices for the Green Lantern. Upon first glance, I would say Ryan Reynolds would look the part but considering he will be starring in the X-Men Origins spin off Deadpool – there could be some filming conflicts. In my opinion, Bradley Cooper has really emerged as a rising star in Hollywood within the past few years. His latest movie, “The Hangover”, has already grossed $210 million domestically and a sequel is already in the works according to this Variety article. I believe Cooper’s breakout role was on the ABC show “Alias” starring Jennifer Garner. “Alias” is one of my all-time favorite shows and I’m glad that the show’s alumni have really done well after the show ended in 2006. As far as Justin Timberlake, I don’t know if I see him as a super hero. I can understand the commercial appeal of choosing him, Timberlake has starred in some dramas (i.e. “Alpha Dog”) and comedies (i.e. “The Love Guru”), but I don’t know if he’s a fit for the role. On the other hand, I can totally picture Henry Cavill as the Green Lantern. Cavill has been linked to many super hero roles including Superman before Brandon Routh was ultimately chosen for “Superman Returns”. Stephenie Meyer, author of the “Twilight” book series, mentioned on her official website that Cavill was part of her dream cast before Robert Pattinson was cast as Edward Cullen for the movie. Cavill is currently starring as Charles Brandon, on the TV series “The Tudors”.
As with all the other super hero franchises, you need someone that can carry a franchise (i.e. sequels, merchandising, etc.) so my vote goes toward Henry Cavill! What do you think?
