84th Academy Award Round-up and Winners

The 84th Academy Award Nominations were held on February 26, 2012. Billy Crystal served as host marking this his 9th time.  Crystal as always had a funny movie/song opening and his opening monologue was quite funny and he kept the award show moving.  As far as the awards, I found it quite coincidental that the jokes made were almost hinting who was going to win.  That or it was just a huge writing coincidence.  As far as the awards, there were some surprises and some well deserved wins.

84th Academy Award Nominations

The 84th Academy Award Nominations were announced on January 24, 2012. This year there are nine Best Picture nominees. “The Ides of March”, which was co-written and directed by George Clooney was noticeably missing from the Best Picture category but was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Otherwise most of the nominees are very similar to this year’s Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice nominees. Kudos to the Academy for giving a Best Actress in a Supporting Role nod to Melissa McCarthy for her role in “Bridesmaids”. McCarthy was previously snubbed of a Golden Globe nomination, so it is nice to see that she got an Oscar nomination for a role which many thought would garner one.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air on February 26, 2012, with host Billy Crystal making this his 9th time as MC-ing the event.

Here are some nomination highlights:
