According to Entertainment Weekly, Tony Award nominated star Jonathan Groff is joining the cast of  “Glee” for a multi-episode arc . Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele (Rachel Berry) were the original leads in the Tony Award winning musical “Spring Awakening” so it is very exciting to hear that they are reuniting on screen. Groff will play the lead male vocalist for Vocal Adrenaline which is the group that rivals the “Glee” crew. Groff’s character will also be a potential love interest for Rachel Berry. “La Cage aux Folles” gets another Broadway Revival

Source: Variety

Tony Award winning musical “La Cage aux Folles” is making its way back to Broadway. Read more about it here. This would be the second revival of the show, the last revival (2004) won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.

In terms of Broadway Revivals, I wish they would bring back “Jekyll & Hyde” (1997). The music was beautiful and I’m still hoping that “Jekyll & Hyde” can follow in the Broadway to Movie trend like “Phantom of the Opera” and “Rent”. That would be fantastic! ::crossing fingers::

“Glee” is gleeful!

As part of a clever marketing strategy, “Glee” premiered after the season finale of “American Idol”. “Glee” is part of the Fox Fall line-up and with American Idol as its lead in, “Glee” brought in approximately 15 million viewers according to Zap2it.com.

Matthew Morrison stars as Will Schuester, an optimistic teacher who volunteers to take over the Glee club in the hope of reliving his glory days with the help of another supportive teacher, Emma Pillsbury, played by Jayma Mays (“Heroes”, “Ugly Betty”) in the effort of trying to make the school’s Glee club great again. Matthew Morrison has starred in the Broadway productions of “Hairspray” (as Link Larkin) and was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in “The Light in the Piazza” (as Fabrizio Naccarelli). The stars of the Glee club include Rachel Berry (Lea Michele, “Spring Awakening”) and the school’s star quarterback Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith, “Kyle XY”). Together they hope to transform the Glee club into a winning team in order to win Nationals.

In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams

[clearspring_widget title=”Widget” wid=”4a0c54b78bd385db” pid=”4a14523a8fe58489″ width=”336″ height=”300″ domain=”widgets.clearspring.com”]

In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams is a documentary chronicling the journey of turning a vision into a Tony Award winning musical. The documentary contains behind-the-scenes footage and cast interviews, including Tony award winner Lin Manuel Miranda. The documentary will premiere on May 27, 2009 on PBS. I think this documentary could be quite interesting and the story of the show’s humble beginnings turned into award-winning success is an amazing “Cinderella” story in itself. Video trailer is courtesy of the In the Heights website.

“In the Heights” is a story about hope, love, family, and community set in the backdrop of Washington Heights in New York City. The music is fun and vibrant and the show is definitely energetic and an instant crowd pleaser. For more information about the show or the documentary, visit the In the Heights website.

According to a New York Times article, Universal Pictures has already purchased the rights to the show, so an “In the Heights” movie adaptation is not that far behind. Personally, I think this is great news as motion pictures allow for a bigger audience at an affordable price especially if you cannot see the show live on Broadway or on tour.

“Fame” – Teaser Trailer

Fame Poster - Image via AOL.com

I never saw the original, but the remake looks promising…

The Fame kids are relatively unknown, but you may recognize Naturi Naughton from the music group 3LW and Kherington Payne  from the Fox Reality Show So You Think You Can Dance.

As for the teachers…they certainly are not strangers to “Fame” and the stage.  Those include Debbie Allen (Fame), Megan Mullally (In the Motherhood, Will & Grace), and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) and Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth.

See the trailer here.
