Winter Movie Season: January 2010

filmreel

As we ring in the New Year, we enter a new decade! So what movies can we expect in the first month of the New Year? Vampires, Romance, and the Supernatural…oh my! If those movie themes do not appeal to you, there are plenty of other films being released this month. Daybreakers, The Book of Eli, and Legion have been promoted the most in my opinion. All three take place in the future and humanity has to be saved in some way.

Family films of the month include Jackie Chan’s The Spy Next Door, Extraordinary Measures, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the Tooth Fairy. The rom com movies of the month are Leap Year starring Academy Award nominee Amy Adams and When in Rome starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel.

My spotlight pick of the month is Creation, which is based on the biography,“Annie’s Box”, written by Charles Darwin’s great great-grandson.. The film stars Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”). Well that’s my January overview, click on the link below to check out the rest of the movies coming out in the next month.

Fall Movie Season: October 2009

filmreel

Now that Fall is in full swing, what movies can we expect in the month of October? I know when I think about the month of October, the first thing that pops into my mind is Halloween and with Halloween I think scary/horror themed movies. There are a few scary/horror movies this month such as “Zombieland”, “The Stepfather”, and the lastest “Saw” installment “Saw VI”. I never saw a “Saw” film, but they must be popular in order for the studio to continue producing them. Those who are eagerly waiting for the next “Twilight” movie will have to wait another month, but if you need a vampire fix, then you may want to check out “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”.

I think October will be animation/cgi domination in the box office. The big releases that fall into this category are “Astro Boy”, “Where the Wild Things Are”, and for a limited time the 3D versions of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Toy Story/Toy Story 2”. There are few comedies out this coming month with Drew Barrymore’s “Whip It”, “Couples Retreat”, and “The Invention of Lying” starring Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner.

My spotlight picks of the month are “New York, I Love You” and “This Is It”. “New York, I Love You” is inspired by “Paris, I Love You” and it has an all-star cast and is directed by an all-star group of directors. The cast includes Bradley Cooper, Orlando Bloom, Natalie Portman, Christina Ricci, and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Cloris Leachman just to name a few. “This Is It” is the Michael Jackson special event concert which will be in theaters (IMAX too) for a limited time. The concept is bittersweet as it is Jackson’s final performance but also a celebration of his career. That’s my October overview, click on the link below to check out the rest of the movies coming out in the next month.

“The Vampire Diaries” premiered on the CW network on September 10, 2009. Based on the series of books by L.J. Smith, “The Vampire Diaries” is about a girl named Elena (Nina Dobrev, “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”) who’s grieving over the lost of her parents but puts on a brave face as she faces the students at Mystic Falls High School. At the same time she is trying to save her brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, “Everwood”) from himself as he has been hanging around the wrong crowd and using drugs. Elena and Jeremy are now living with their Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning, “Smallville”), who is doing her best to be a surrogate parent. Things are about to change for Elena when a new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, “Everwood”), enrolls and quickly becomes the talk of the school. Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, but there is a reason Stefan is back in Mystic Falls and a secret he is hiding from everyone – he is a vampire.

more about "Cirque Du Freak: The Vamp…", posted with vodpod.

Source: Comingsoon.net

Vive le Vampire! “Twilight” series mania, the anticipated CW show “The Vampire Diaries”, and now “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” starring Academy Award winner John C. Reilly (“Chicago”). It doesn’t look like the age of the vampires will fizzle any time soon. “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” is due out in theaters on October 23, 2009.

Here is a synopsis of the film from MovieFone:
“Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” is based on the popular series of books by Darren Shan, is a fantasy-adventure about a teenager who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares.

This actually looks like a fun movie. I think I might have to check it out. For more information, visit the movie’s official website. Full cast list can be found on IMDB.com.
