DWTS Week 2: Dance Recap

The men and women compete head to head for the first time this season. Director Baz Lurhmann (“Moulin Rouge”) sits in as a guest judge for Len Goodman who is currently in England this week. With only 4 days to prepare their routines, how did the pairs do this week?

Mya and Aaron Carter currently sit on top of the leader board with a two-way tie for first with a score of 27. Donny Osmond comes in at third with a score 25 and another solid performance under his belt. Injuries are starting to plague the contestants and professionals as ABC tweeted the latest injury updates. Tom DeLay has a pre-stress fracture in his foot that caused him to almost drop his partner Cheryl Burke during their Tango performance. Lacey Schwimmer despite her muscle strain injury, her and her partner Mark Dacascos turned in a solid performance which the judges went on to say that he was showing signs of becoming a great ballroom dancer. Check out Schwimmer’s vlog on Radar Online for her injury status.

In my opinion I think Mya delivered the best performance of the night. It was spunky and fun and Bruno called her “Mya the magnificent”! Both Joanna Krupa and Kelly Osbourne had a few mistakes which knocked them a little lower in the leader board this week. Although I do believe they will be able to bounce back for next week, if they are still around. My predication on who is leaving tonight is between Kathy Ireland and Chuck Liddell. Ireland improved from last week but as Carrie Ann pointed out, Ireland needs to stand out more. No offense to Chuck Liddell but he is quite scary on the dance floor and his dancing looks awkward. Find out all the pairs’ scores below and visit ABC.com to watch performances from Week 2 of “Dancing with the Stars”.

DWTS Season 9 Three-Night Recap

Season 9 of “Dancing with the Stars” has arrived. The men performed on night one and on night two, the ladies performed. I think there were pleasant surprises, but all in all every contestant showed some potential to grow. Nevertheless, one man and one woman have been eliminated from the competition and they are…

Tweet the “Dancing with the Stars” Season 9 cast!

Now that the cast of Season 9 and their partners have been revealed, who will you be cheering for? Upon first glance, I would say that Mya and Dmitry will be the pair to watch. Mya’s dance background combined with Dmitry’s choreography will certainly be something to watch. In fact, Dmitry is nominated for an Emmy award this year for “Outstanding Choreography” for an Argentine Tango he choreographed on Season 4 of “So You Think You Can Dance”. Click here to watch Dmitry’s Emmy nominated piece which was performed by SYTYCD Season 4 winner Joshua Allen and DWTS own Chelsie Hightower.

As for the other contestants, I wouldn’t misjudge the power of the mirrorball trophy. Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas have both earned 2 mirrorball trophies, can one of them add a third? Derek Hough has one mirrorball trophy under his belt, can he get a 2nd win this season? Don’t forget that Alec Mazo was the first DWTS champ, so maybe with an Olympian on his side he can achieve another win. I also wouldn’t rule out the power of a fan base. In the last few seasons Derek, Julianne, Mark, and Lacey have emerged to be the audience favorites on more than one occasion, so I wouldn’t expect any of them (minus Julianne since she is taking a break this season) to leave the competition too early.

Entertainment Weekly ranked the Season 9 pairs and they chose Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson for the win. I think it is too early to tell seeing as we haven’t seen any of the pairs dance yet, although I’m not sure if I agree with Donny Osmond as being the Season 9 winner. Check out EW’s DWTS rankings here. Tune in on September 21, 2009 for night one for the 3-night “Dancing with the Stars” premiere.
